Meet Jess

Counsellor and Founder of New Pathway Therapy

Hello, I'm Jess, a qualified and experienced Integrative counsellor offering one-to-one therapy for adults and adolescents (11+) based in Sevenoaks, Kent. I am a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). I created New Pathway Therapy to provide a calm, supportive environment where people feel they can genuinely explore any challenges and learn positive ways to navigate through life.

I have around 15 years of experience working with all age groups from 3-80, supporting people who have experienced a wide range of difficulties such as anxiety, trauma and depression. Additionally I have specific experience of working with survivors of rape, childhood sexual abuse and domestic violence. Alongside this I have also worked as a lead school counsellor for many years in schools around Kent, working in both mainstream and SEN schools, meaning that I also have a large amount of experience working with young people and with neurodiverse clients. I have delivered multiple talks to parents and teachers about resilience, anxiety and supporting young people.

However, finding the right counsellor is not only about their skills and experience. A counsellor is someone you should feel completely emotionally safe with – someone you can open up to, share your story and your feelings with, and be your true self without fear of judgement. Choosing the right counsellor for you will vastly improve your counselling experience and outcomes.

My journey

My journey to a career in counselling began in my teenage years when my mum trained to become a counsellor. I experienced first-hand how powerful it feels to have someone truly listen to you without judgement, and how it allows you to work through problems and experiences. Through her I truly learnt the art of 'active listening' and this has meant that throughout my personal and professional life people have always found themselves naturally opening up to me.

My clients instinctively sense that I am a natural, caring, supportive and non-judgemental person. They feel safe with me and this allows them to explore the most difficult aspects of their lives. If you choose to work with me I will truly listen to what you are telling me without judgement, so that together we can work on helping you to find more peace and balance in your life.

"With Jess I finally feel safe enough to say things I've never said out loud. It's liberating" , client

What to Expect

Coming to counselling for the first time can feel daunting. You may have problems that you have never spoken about with anyone, or things that you can't make sense of. Therefore it is really important to ensure that you have the right counsellor for you. This is why I offer a free, no obligation 20 minute phone call during which we can chat and you ask me any questions you may have.

If you decide you would like to go ahead we can arrange a suitable time for us to meet. It is natural to feel a little nervous for your first visit, but my clients say that their nerves disappear quickly. During our first session I will ask you a bit about yourself, your background and the problems you are facing. You are in control and you can choose to tell me as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. If you have any particular goals you want to achieve with therapy we might also discuss these. I will always adapt sessions to fit you

Sessions last 50 minutes and are offered in-person from peaceful therapy rooms in Sevenoaks, with nearby parking, bus routes and 10 min walk from Sevenoaks station. If you prefer to meet via Zoom, then this is also possible. The number of sessions you will need depends on you. We can take a short term or longer term approach and we can build in regular review points. There is no pressure to commit at any time and you always remain in control of whether you wish to continue.
